
See if the student can identify "star", and also count the three stars. See if the student can read the sentence.

Ask the student "What color stars can you see?" (star has been taught previously)
Ascertain whether the student is able to identify colors.
Follow-up: What is your favorite color?


Ascertain which toys the student is able to identify. Level dependent - teach them the vocabulary they don't know.
Follow-up questions: "What is your favorite toy?" | "What color is the ball?" etc.

Ask the student: What toys do you see? (Try to encourage, "I can see.....")
Extension: See if the student is able to count the toys. (Pay attention to singular vs. plural)
Family

Ascertain whether the student can identify and understand family members.
Extension: Ask them about their family.

See if the student understands "boy" and "girl".
Extension: Ask follow-up questions - eg. Are you a boy or a girl? Is mom a boy or a girl? (TPR)
