The Chernobyl disaster, which occurred on April 26, 1986, was one of the most catastrophic nuclear accidents in history. It took place at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Soviet

Union (now Ukraine) and had far-reaching consequences for the environment and human health.

The disaster was caused by a combination of design flaws and human error during a safety test. A sudden power surge led to a reactor meltdown, resulting in a massive explosion and the release of a significant amount of radioactive material into the atmosphere.

The radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl accident spread across a large area, contaminating the environment, crops, and water sources. The immediate vicinity of the power plant was heavily affected, and thousands of people were forced to evacuate their homes to avoid further exposure to radiation.
